Book Description
Daniel Craig contributed the foreword to this deluxe book that – in words and stunning photos – tells the history of 007’s Aston Martin DB5. James Bond first took the wheel of the DB5 in Goldfinger (1963), redefining the action movie forever, and setting a standard for everything that followed. Over the ensuing decades, the Bond-Aston Martin association has only grown stronger. They’re the perfect match: understated, stylish, powerful, and not to be underestimated. This book spans that… bond, starting in 1963, when the DB5 was brand-new, to the upcoming 25th Bond film, No Time to Die, with the DB5 again taking center stage. EON and Aston Martin provided author Simon Hugo unprecedented access to their official archives, enabling Hugo to present the DB5’s inside story and complement it with original production artwork, film storyboards, and exclusive photography. This deluxe coffee-table book measures 11”x12 ½” and is packed with full-page, high-quality photographs, including multiple shots illustrating the DB5’s appearance in No Time to Die, making it the ideal gift for James Bond fans.

Book Description
Corgi Aston Martin DB5 & Lotus Esprit from James Bond History.Corgi Aston Martin DB5 (C261) in October 1965, two months before the release of Thunderball and almost a year after the DB5 first hit the screen and was seen by audiences around the world in Goldfinger. It was available in gold finish at 1:46 scale. The model was a instant success and by the end of the year, after only three months, sales were sufficient to earn Playcraft the award of "Best Boys Toy of 1965".Although in the films Goldfinger and Thunderball, Bond's DB5 was silver, the Corgi marketing team felt, when looking at the early prototypes, that customers would think the model was unpainted and a radical decision was reached to release the model painted gold! Whether one of the team also suggested that a gold model would relate better to its film origins is just a wild thought of mine is probably just that, the truth of the matter though, is that the first Corgi James Bond DB5 was gold. The model was launched at a cost like a month's pocket money in 1965, but this did nothing to deter buyers as by the end of 1966, Playcraft had sold a staggering 2.7 million models!Three designers set about the retooling of the existing DB4, withdrawn from production to make way for the DB5, to completed the DB5 in time for the 1965 Christmas launch. The model was made up of 28 separate parts and it is said that the tooling of this car cost in the region of £45,000. The one error in the first model, only spotted by Aston Martin owners and those with an obsessive eye for detail was that the model passed through quality control with the DB4's rear end, noticeable by the different light cluster and single petrol cap!Corgi was perhaps the most innovative die-cast manufacturer of the period, placing its closest rival Dinky in the shade. It was therefore, not surprising, although it was in its day, that Corgi should release a model of such a small scale with so many gadgets. Within the 1:46 scale, 97mm casing, the engineers fitted an ejector seat, front mounted machine guns and bumper rams and a rear bullet-proof screen; all of which were operated by depressing secret buttons and levers secreted around the car, the bullet-proof screen, for instance was raised by pushing in the exhaust pipes.

James Bond - The Secret History PDF Author: Sean Egan

Category : Biography & Autobiography

Pages : 300

Book Description
James Bond entered the world in 1953 with the novel Casino Royale by Ian Fleming. Since then, the British secret agent codenamed 007 has become the biggest media phenomenon of the modern age, surpassing and outlasting previous cultural icons such as Sherlock Holmes, Tarzan and The Saint. Bond has conquered all forms of media - from books, films and radio to comic strips and video games - while inspiring a tidal wave of merchandise and a legion of imitators. Although the world has changed almost beyond recognition since his debut, his continuing relevance is affirmed by the multiple generations who have thrilled to his exploits. This book for the first time provides the full enthralling story of how the espionage fantasies of a rather melancholy journalist came to captivate the world. It exposes the setbacks behind the triumphs, from Fleming’s increasing boredom with his own creation to regular crises over re-casting of the cinematic Bond and legal battles in the 1990s that almost destroyed the film franchise. With the help of Bond scholars, Fleming intimates, Bond film crew and others, James Bond: The Secret History shows how the man with the Licence to Kill overcame every hurdle to become the greatest fantasy hero of all time. With a foreword by Jeremy Duns

Book Description
This is the first book to focus on James Bond’s relationship to the playboy ideal through the sixties and beyond. Examining aspects of the Bond phenomenon and the playboy lifestyle, it considers how ideas of gender and consumption were manipulated to construct and reflect a powerful male fantasy in the post-war era. This analysis of the close association and relations between the emerging cultural icons of James Bond and the playboy is particularly concerned with Sean Connery’s definitive Bond as he was promoted and used by the media. By exploring the connections that developed between Bond and Playboy magazine within a historical framework, the book offers new insights into these related phenomena and their enduring legacy in popular culture.
